Omonia prepares for Anorthosis clash after European fixture

Omonia Nicosia is set to face Anorthosis Famagusta in a 9th-round league derby scheduled for November 8, 2026, at 16:00 at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium. The team enters this match aiming to recover from their recent European loss against NEC Nijmegen, focusing on domestic success to maintain their position at the top of the league standings before the upcoming international break.

Manager Henning Berg has finalized his 21-man squad for the encounter. The team faces significant absences, most notably forward Andronikos Kakoullis, who is sidelined due to injury. Additionally, Jure Balkovec, Negu, and Tanase are unavailable due to card-related suspensions. Loïc Diony is expected to lead the offensive line in the absence of Kakoullis, while Muamer Tanković, who was benched during the European fixture, is anticipated to return to the starting lineup. Tanković carries a strong record against Anorthosis, having scored nine goals against them in his career.

Despite Anorthosis's current inconsistent performance in the league, Berg has urged his squad to remain focused and disciplined. The coaching staff emphasizes the importance of tactical efficiency and defensive concentration to secure the three points in this high-stakes rivalry match.
