Cyprus announces budget for Digital Citizen 2.0 and expanded e-government services
The government of Cyprus has allocated a budget of 45 million euros for e-government initiatives in 2027, with the upcoming launch of the upgraded 'Digital Citizen 2.0' platform. Key investments include 5.3 million euros for the integration of the European Digital Identity Wallet and 500,000 euros for a digital age verification mechanism. Furthermore, the state is consolidating its digital presence by redesigning over 200 government websites into the unified gov.cy portal.
These initiatives build on progress made in 2026, which included adding English-language support, identity linking for minors, and automated notification systems. The current strategy mandates that all new government information systems be designed for access via the CY Login, which currently serves 735,000 identified users—comprising 554,000 individuals and 181,000 legal entities. Currently, there are over 470 digital services available, with more than 100 additional services expected to be finalized by the end of 2026. This transition aims to simplify user access across all government departments through a single, secure identification mechanism.
