Cypriot archer Stylianos Christodoulou wins gold at Balkan Open Championship
Cypriot archer Stylianos Christodoulou, 24, won the gold medal in the Compound Bow category at the Balkan Open Championship held in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, in early November 2026. Despite finishing fourth in the preliminary rounds, Christodoulou successfully advanced through the knockout stages to secure his first individual gold medal at an international competition. This victory follows his recent gold medal performance at the Aphrodite Mediterranean Cup held in Pyla.
In addition to the gold, the Cyprus National Archery Team secured a bronze medal at the Montenegro Grand Prix. Beyond the athletic achievement, the event highlights a deepening relationship between Cyprus and Montenegro. Current leadership, which plans to step down in 2028, is actively working on proposals to formalize ties between the cities of Herceg Novi and Famagusta. This initiative follows a similar twinning arrangement previously established between Famagusta and the Serbian municipality of Ljubovija, with proponents citing significant cultural and athletic benefits for local athletes.
