APOEL football club celebrates 100-year anniversary
APOEL, the historic Cypriot football club, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in November 2026. This milestone marks a century of participation in the national sports scene, an occasion that has prompted commemorative messages from key figures associated with the club's history.
Former APOEL president Christoforos Potamitis expressed his deep emotional bond with the team, reflecting on his tenure as president and the club's enduring principles. Simultaneously, current player Pieros Sotiriou issued a tribute regarding his long association with the team. Sotiriou, who first joined the club in 2013, highlighted his tenure until 2017—a period marked by domestic championships and a historic run to the round of 16 in the Europa League—and noted his official return to the club in 2025. He acknowledged current difficulties for the organization, urging fans to remain supportive during challenging times.
The celebrations highlight the enduring cultural significance of the club within Cyprus. While the institution faces operational challenges, stakeholders emphasize a collective commitment to overcoming recent obstacles and ensuring the club's continued success in the coming years.
