Heavy rains flood tens of thousands of tents in the Gaza Strip
On November 7 and 8, 2026, severe storms and torrential rains swept across the Gaza Strip, causing widespread devastation in camps for displaced persons. The Hamas-led government media office reported that approximately 70,000 tents were flooded on the first day of the adverse weather conditions, leaving tens of thousands of people without shelter. Additionally, dozens of damaged walls and roofs collapsed, resulting in multiple injuries, with some victims reported to be in serious condition across the territory.
Throughout the night, the Civil Defense reported receiving over 1,500 calls for emergency assistance. On Saturday morning, hundreds of families were observed fleeing flooded camps in the northern and central parts of the Gaza Strip and Gaza City. Local authorities and emergency services have stated they are operating under extreme duress, lacking necessary equipment and resources to adequately respond to the unfolding humanitarian crisis. The situation remains critical as families face ongoing displacement without protection from the elements.
