Greek defense minister highlights modernization of the Hellenic Air Force
On November 8, 2026, marking the celebration of the Air Force patron Archangel Michael, Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias outlined the strategic modernization of the Hellenic Air Force. He emphasized the transition into a new era characterized by 5th-generation fighter jets, advanced anti-aircraft and missile defense systems, and the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
A primary development mentioned by the minister is the forthcoming addition of three KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft to the country's fleet, which will provide enhanced operational capabilities, including mid-air refueling. Furthermore, Dendias announced that Greece is establishing its inaugural presence in space through the upcoming launch of a dedicated Space Command and the deployment of a series of satellites for communications and operational planning.
While detailing these technological advancements, the minister paid tribute to the personnel of the Air Force, describing them as the nation's primary shield. He honored both current pilots protecting national sovereignty and those who have fallen in the line of duty, reiterating that human capital remains the most critical component of the country’s defense infrastructure.
