Cyprus announces new prostate cancer screening program
On November 8, 2026, Cypriot Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides announced a new national initiative to improve cancer care coordination, speaking at the 'Blue Route: Walking Together for Prostate Cancer Prevention' event. The minister emphasized the need for a seamless transition from diagnosis to treatment and supportive care, supported by a proposed National Cancer Institute.
As part of the strategy, the government is implementing a free biennial prostate cancer screening program for men aged 50 to 69, in line with European guidelines. This initiative provides for regular PSA testing. Health officials stressed that while individuals should consult their personal doctors or urologists to determine if testing is necessary, the state holds the responsibility for ensuring accessible, organized screening pathways. In cases where tests reveal findings requiring further investigation, the Minister highlighted the need for seamless cooperation between medical services to ensure timely patient management.
