Tenerife supports daughter of late footballer Jesus de Miguel
Spanish football club Tenerife has pledged to provide long-term financial support to the daughter of player Jesus de Miguel following his tragic death. The footballer collapsed and suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during stoppage time in a match against Andorra, following a collision with opponent Jesus Ovono.
The club, through CEO Antonio Manuel Porro Granados and primary shareholder Rayco Garcia, announced that they will fund the upbringing of the player's daughter, Carla, for the next 17 years until she reaches adulthood. While initial reports cited the child's age as one year, subsequent reports have updated this figure to 18 months. The club has expressed its commitment to standing by the player's family during this period of grief.
This incident has shocked the sporting community, as the collision during the second-division Spanish league match resulted in an unexpected and sudden death. Tenerife authorities have emphasized that the child will remain connected to the club's legacy and her father's history with the team as she grows up.
