Minister Senekis calls for resumption of Cyprus negotiations
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, emphasized the urgent need to resume meaningful negotiations to reach a just, viable, and functional solution to the Cyprus problem. Speaking at separate commemorative events in Kellia, Larnaca—marking the feast of Archangel Michael for the displaced community of Pigi, Famagusta, and an official twinning ceremony for the communities of Milia and Agrokipia—Senekis reiterated that the government remains committed to international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Senekis highlighted that fifty-two years have passed since the 1974 Turkish invasion, which continues to deprive thousands of displaced Cypriots of the right to return to their ancestral homes. He stressed that achieving real progress requires political will from all involved parties, particularly from Turkey. Under the leadership of President Nikos Christodoulides, the Republic of Cyprus continues to engage in ongoing discussions in good faith, aiming to end the occupation, restore national unity, and secure long-term peace, freedom, and prosperity for all legal residents of the island.
