High winds damage electricity pylons in Larnaca district
Strong winds caused significant damage to two Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) transmission pylons in the Larnaca district on the morning of November 8, 2026. The incident occurred around 08:00 local time on the 132 kV Dhekelia-Larnaca transmission line, specifically in the Kelli area. Despite the structural damage to the towers, there were no power outages reported for consumers.
The EAC successfully maintained the power supply by activating alternative routing through the wider transmission network and other substations. This prompt technical intervention ensured that electricity delivery remained uninterrupted while crews secured the site.
The utility company expects that the full restoration of the pylons and the normalization of the system will require approximately four weeks of work. EAC crews are currently on-site conducting repairs, with the organization prioritizing infrastructure safety and the continued reliability of the transmission network.
