Rockefeller Center receives annual Christmas tree
A 75-year-old Norway spruce has arrived at Rockefeller Center in New York City, marking the beginning of the city's preparations for the holiday season. The tree, which stands 23 meters tall, spans 15 meters in width, and weighs 11 tons, was transported from West Edmeston, New York.
Following its arrival on November 8, 2026, the spruce will undergo a decorating process involving thousands of lights. It is expected to serve as a major tourist attraction in Manhattan throughout the festive period, continuing a tradition that dates back to the early 1930s.
The tradition of placing a Christmas tree at this location began in 1931 with the workers who constructed the complex, and the first official tree lighting ceremony was held in 1933. The Rockefeller Center management continues this historic annual event, which consistently draws millions of visitors to the city to view the display.
