Cyprus issues weather warning as heatwave temperatures reach 41 degrees Celsius
Cyprus is currently experiencing a heatwave with temperatures in inland areas reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius. The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning, effective from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026. While the weather remains clear, isolated clouds are expected in the afternoon, potentially leading to rain or thunderstorms in mountain regions. Temperatures at coastal areas are forecast to reach 32 to 35 degrees, while higher mountain peaks will remain around 30 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to approximately 24 degrees in the interior and 19-20 degrees in the mountains, with potential fog. Authorities have warned of an extremely high risk of forest fires and have scheduled an inter-agency meeting for Tuesday to coordinate fire prevention efforts. High temperatures are expected to persist until the middle of the upcoming week.
