Cyprus issues weather warnings as inland temperatures reach 40°C
The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme heat, with temperatures in inland areas reaching 40°C. This alert was active on July 12, 2026, between 11:00 and 17:00 local time. Meteorological officer Matthaios Papadakis stated that these high temperatures are expected to persist through Wednesday, July 15. While temperatures remain above seasonal averages, officials noted that current conditions do not technically constitute a heatwave, as that assessment also considers humidity and wind. Overnight temperatures are forecast to drop to approximately 23°C inland and along the coast, and 19°C in the mountains. Winds will generally range from force 3 to 4, with the sea remaining calm to slightly rough. Although seasonal low pressure affects the region, the meteorological service intends to evaluate the need for further daily yellow warnings based on prevailing conditions.
