Cyprus issues yellow heat warning as temperatures reach 41 degrees
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme heat on July 21, 2026, valid from 13:00 to 16:30. Temperatures are expected to reach 41°C in inland areas, with coastal regions seeing highs of 32°C to 35°C and mountainous areas reaching 31°C. The Department of Labor Inspection (TEE) has warned employers and the self-employed to take necessary measures to protect workers from heat stress. Recommendations include adjusting work schedules to cooler hours, providing shade, and allowing frequent breaks in air-conditioned areas. Employers are required to monitor temperature and humidity, with the code of practice dictating potential work suspension when temperatures reach between 39°C and 46°C under specific humidity conditions. Emergency services have reported an increase in heat-related illnesses, particularly among vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Temperatures are expected to rise further until Thursday before declining on Friday.
