Cyprus issues yellow heat warning for Saturday
The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for extreme heat in Cyprus, valid for Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Maximum temperatures in inland areas are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Seasonal low pressure is currently affecting the region. While the weather will be mostly sunny, clouds are expected to develop in the afternoon, with a possibility of isolated showers or thunderstorms, primarily in mountainous regions. Temperatures in coastal areas are forecast to range between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius, while higher mountains will see temperatures around 25 to 29 degrees Celsius. Winds will shift from variable and light to southwesterly or northwesterly, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort, with temporary gusts up to 5 Beaufort on the southern coast. Overnight, temperatures will drop to approximately 22 to 24 degrees Celsius inland and on the coast, and 16 to 20 degrees Celsius in the mountains, with a risk of morning mist or low clouds.
