Heatwave affects Western Europe while Cyprus experiences seasonal weather
A severe heatwave is impacting Western and Central Europe, with temperatures reaching extreme levels in countries like France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and the UK. At least 18 deaths have been reported in France due to the heat, with meteorologists attributing the phenomenon to warm African air masses trapped by high-pressure systems. In contrast, Cyprus remains largely unaffected by this extreme heat, with temperatures staying close to seasonal norms. Meteorological officials confirmed that northern low-pressure systems are channeling cooler air toward the island. While some areas in Cyprus saw temperatures hit around 38°C on Wednesday, only temporary rises are expected through early next week. Regional authorities do not foresee an extreme heatwave for the island at this time. Potential isolated rains or thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas of Cyprus from Friday through Sunday due to atmospheric instability.
