Unstable weather conditions and yellow alert issued for Cyprus
On Saturday, May 24, the Department of Meteorology in Cyprus issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms, and hail, effective until 17:00. The unstable air mass primarily affected the inland areas and the mountains, with rainfall intensity reaching between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour. Reports confirmed hail in areas including Nicosia, Strovolos, Makedonitissa, and Lakatamia, leading to hazardous driving conditions on major highways. Police urged drivers to exercise caution due to reduced visibility and water accumulation on roads. Temperatures are forecast to reach 26°C inland and 14°C in the higher mountains, with nights expected to be mostly clear but prone to light mist. Looking ahead, intermittent clouds and isolated showers are predicted from Sunday through Tuesday. While temperatures will see a gradual rise, they are expected to remain slightly below seasonal averages.
