Weather forecast for Cyprus: rising temperatures and localized storms
The Department of Meteorology reports that a weak low-pressure system and unstable air mass are currently affecting the region. Temperatures are expected to rise by two to three degrees, reaching a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius in the interior, 28 to 32 degrees on the coasts, and approximately 26 degrees in the mountains. While initially sunny, the weather will develop localized cloudiness in the afternoons, leading to isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous regions and the interior. Some sources mention the possibility of hail during these storms. Winds will primarily blow from the southwest and northwest, starting at 3-4 Beaufort and increasing to 4-5 Beaufort on the coasts. Nighttime temperatures will drop to around 16 degrees in the interior, 18-20 degrees on the coasts, and 12-15 degrees in the mountains. This weather pattern of high temperatures and afternoon instability is expected to persist through Wednesday, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages. Additionally, officials noted that indicators point toward a potential onset of the El Nino phenomenon starting this autumn.
