Weather forecast for Cyprus: Weak low pressure and seasonal heat
Cyprus is currently under the influence of a weak low-pressure system, which is expected to maintain temperatures slightly above seasonal averages throughout the week. On Monday, temperatures will peak at 35°C in inland areas, 30°C on most coasts, 28°C on the west coast, and 26°C in the higher mountains. While the weather will be mostly clear, localized low clouds and morning mist are forecast for inland and coastal areas. From Monday through Thursday, afternoon cloud development over mountainous regions and the interior may trigger isolated rain or thunderstorms, with the possibility of hail. Evening temperatures are expected to drop to approximately 20°C inland and on the coast, and 16-17°C in the mountains. Philippos Tymvios, Director of the Meteorological Service of Cyprus, noted that the overall summer season will be slightly warmer than normal, a trend consistent with long-term climate models. He also explained that the El Nino phenomenon, characterized by periodic fluctuations in Pacific Ocean water temperatures, is a natural climate cycle that can influence regional temperatures. Despite the summer heat, local weather remains subject to significant fluctuations.
