Yellow heat warning issued for Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for extreme heat, effective Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 11:00 to 17:00 local time. Temperatures in inland areas are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Meteorologist Matthaios Papadakis stated that these conditions are forecast to persist from Sunday through Wednesday. While temperatures are currently 2 to 2.5 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages, officials clarified that this does not constitute an official heatwave, as that definition also depends on humidity and wind levels. Forecasts indicate coastal temperatures will reach 32-35 degrees Celsius, with higher mountainous areas expecting around 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity is generally low, although fog and low clouds are anticipated at night along the coast. Similar weather conditions are expected for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with daily yellow warnings likely to be issued throughout the period.
