Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for severe thunderstorms on Monday, effective from 12:00 to 18:00 local time. These unsettled weather conditions, driven by seasonal low pressure, are expected to primarily affect mountainous areas, the island's interior, and the northern regions. Officials warn that rainfall could locally exceed 35 millimeters per hour in affected areas. Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 35°C inland, 31°C on the southeastern and eastern coasts, and 26°C in higher mountainous regions. Wind speeds are expected to range from 3 to 4 Beaufort, increasing to 5 Beaufort in southern coastal areas. Atmospheric instability is projected to persist through Thursday, with intermittent cloud cover and a continued risk of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons. Nighttime temperatures will drop to approximately 22°C inland and 18°C in the mountains, accompanied by localized mist or fog.
