Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus with extreme temperatures and localized storms
The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning for high temperatures effective Sunday, July 19, between 13:00 and 16:00. Inland temperatures are expected to reach approximately 40 to 41 degrees Celsius. Despite the heat, seasonal low pressure is causing localized weather instability across the island. While the interior remains dry and hot, mountainous regions have experienced heavy rainfall, isolated storms, and occasional hail. Forecasts indicate that winds will be light to moderate, reaching force 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale in coastal areas. Overnight, coastal regions may experience low cloud cover and patchy fog in the south and east. Temperatures are forecast to drop to around 24 degrees Celsius in inland and coastal areas, and 20 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains. These contrasting weather conditions have prompted social media reports of winter-like imagery in the Troodos mountains and Paphos Forest.
