Yellow weather warning issued for thunderstorms and hail in Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for isolated severe thunderstorms and potential hail, effective from 11:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The unsettled weather, driven by a weak low-pressure system and an unstable air mass, is expected to primarily affect inland areas and the mountains. Rainfall intensity during these storms is estimated to reach between 35 and 50 millimetres per hour. In addition to the weekend warning, the island is experiencing generally unsettled conditions lasting through Monday, May 25, with patchy low cloud and fog expected during early morning hours. Temperatures are forecast to drop on Saturday, particularly inland and in mountainous regions, remaining below seasonal averages for the coming days. Winds are expected to shift from southwesterly to northwesterly, occasionally reaching force 5 on the Beaufort scale. Sea conditions are predicted to be slight to a little rough.
