Cyprus conducts coordinated migration and public security operations
Cypriot authorities have conducted extensive operations over the past several days, focusing on both migration control and general public safety. Between May 9 and May 13, the Ministry of Justice reported 43 arrests and 37 deportations related to irregular migration, with an additional 11 voluntary departures recorded. Separately, overnight police patrols across urban centers resulted in seven arrests for various crimes, including theft, drug possession, and outstanding warrants. During these traffic and premises inspections, police checked 277 drivers and 90 passengers, leading to 159 traffic citations—including 94 for speeding—and the seizure of four vehicles. Additionally, six drivers tested positive for narcotics, and two were cited for alcohol-related offenses. Further deportations, including Syrian, Pakistani, and Georgian nationals, are scheduled through May 13 as part of ongoing enforcement efforts. Officials stated that these daily coordinated operations are intended to maintain order and increase public security.
