Police conduct nationwide operations resulting in arrests
Cypriot police conducted coordinated, nationwide preventative operations overnight to enhance public safety and prevent crime. Sources offer conflicting data regarding the number of arrests and scale of the operation. One report indicates 8 arrests for offenses including drug possession, weapon carrying, and illegal property possession, involving checks on 388 vehicles and 476 people. Conversely, official reports and subsequent updates state 6 arrests were made for burglary, theft, malicious damage, and illegal residency, involving 364 vehicle checks and 512 individuals. Regarding commercial premises, reports vary between 41 checks with 4 citations and 36 checks with 5 citations. Traffic violations also differed across sources, ranging from 200 to 219 citations, with 81 to 87 cases related to speeding. Alcohol testing results recorded either 2 positive drivers out of 61 tests, or 3 positive drivers out of 99 tests. Additionally, between two and five vehicles were seized by authorities during these operations.
