Three arrested in Cyprus as part of an organized crime investigation
Cypriot authorities have arrested three individuals, including a 45-year-old serving police officer, following a major operation in Limassol and Paphos. The suspects, which include a 49-year-old man and his 50-year-old spouse, were remanded in custody: the police officer for eight days and the couple for seven. They are under investigation for serious offenses, including participation in a criminal organization, money laundering, tax evasion, and illegal possession of property. Prosecutors allege the group, directed by a suspect currently residing in Dubai and wanted by Greek authorities, was involved in extortion, arson, and shootings targeting local businessmen. Evidence gathered includes blocked assets valued at over 200,000 euros and several luxury vehicles. Additionally, the investigation focuses on discrepancies between the police officer's declared salary and his financial assets, including significant bank deposits. This operation marks a major action by the newly established specialized anti-organized crime unit.
