Two arrests made in Famagusta district for separate rape investigations
The Famagusta District Criminal Investigation Department is investigating two separate rape cases following arrests made on the night of Wednesday, May 20. In the first case, a 23-year-old woman reported on May 18 that she was raped by her 41-year-old partner; the suspect was arrested in Paralimni. In the second case, a 20-year-old Swedish tourist filed a complaint on May 19 at Larnaca Airport, alleging she was raped by a 23-year-old man on May 16 after meeting him at an entertainment venue in Ayia Napa. The Famagusta District Court has issued remand orders for the suspects, lasting four days for the 41-year-old and five days for the 23-year-old. While reports indicate the 23-year-old suspect is a foreign national, local media sources differ on his specific nationality. Police operations were part of a wider law enforcement effort across Cyprus that resulted in seven total arrests for various offenses. Authorities are continuing to collect evidence and conduct investigations into both incidents.
