Omonia concludes record-breaking season as APOEL finishes in crisis
Omonia secured the 2025-2026 Cyprus championship title with a record-breaking 87 points, surpassing the previous record of 86 held by APOEL since 2017-2018. The team finished with 88 goals scored, 24 conceded, and an 18-point gap over the second-place team, remaining undefeated at GSP Stadium. President Stavros Papastavrou confirmed the renewal of Stefan Simic's contract until 2028 and praised coach Henning Berg for the campaign. Conversely, APOEL finished in 5th place with 52 points, ending the season 35 points behind the champions. The club suffered four consecutive league defeats without scoring a goal, a negative historical statistic for the team. APOEL is currently in negotiations with businessman Savvas Liasis regarding potential investment, while the contract of player Peter Olayinka is set to expire by the end of May without signs of renewal.
