Continued violence in Lebanon despite ongoing ceasefire efforts
Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah persist despite a ceasefire nominally in effect since April 17, 2026. In the last 24 hours, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed 13 people, including emergency workers and a Lebanese soldier, while Israel issued new evacuation orders for several villages near Tyre. Two separate strikes targeted vehicles on a highway near Jieh, following similar attacks in the same area on Saturday. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reports that at least 380 people have been killed and over 1,100 injured since the ceasefire began, bringing the total war death toll to approximately 2,869. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected demands for disarmament, calling it an internal Lebanese matter, and vowed to turn the conflict into a 'hell' for Israel. Meanwhile, both parties are scheduled to participate in a fourth round of U.S.-brokered negotiations in Washington, D.C., starting May 14.
