Escalating military exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon
Ongoing military conflict persists between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon despite a theoretical ceasefire effective since April 17, 2026. The Israeli military recently reported the death of Sergeant Nahorai Leitser, 19, in combat, bringing total Israeli military losses to 23 since hostilities resumed on March 2. In Lebanon, the Ministry of Health reports 3,089 total deaths, including 116 medical and rescue personnel. Recent Israeli airstrikes in Nabatieh and Tyre resulted in multiple civilian casualties, including reports of a major strike killing 11 people, among them women and children. Israel maintains its operations target Hezbollah infrastructure, citing violations of the ceasefire, and recently ordered the evacuation of 11 villages. Hezbollah continues to respond with rocket, drone, and artillery attacks against Israeli positions. Recent damage has been reported to the Tebnine government hospital, while the Lebanese civil defense reported the total destruction of its center in Nabatieh.
