Middle East tensions persist despite reported US-Iran agreement
As of June 15, 2026, uncertainty remains regarding a US-Iran framework agreement to end regional hostilities, including the conflict in Lebanon. While Lebanon has not received official notification of the terms, Lebanese authorities have advised thousands of displaced persons in the south not to return home yet. Israel has explicitly stated it is not bound by the deal, with Defense Minister Israel Katz confirming that troops will not withdraw from occupied areas in Lebanon. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir further criticized the agreement, demanding the total dismantling of Hezbollah. Conversely, Hezbollah-allied Lebanese officials, such as Speaker Nabih Berri, have welcomed the prospect of a ceasefire. Meanwhile, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council has promised an imminent response to recent Israeli strikes in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut, which reportedly resulted in the death of senior Hezbollah commander Ali Musa Daqduq. Amidst these developments, humanitarian concerns persist as at least six Palestinians were killed in Gaza on June 14, even as mediation efforts continue.
