Tensions persist in Lebanon despite US-Iran deal
Following a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, reports indicate ongoing skirmishes in Southern Lebanon. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that while Lebanon supports the ceasefire, its negotiations with Israel remain independent of the broader US-Iran deal. Israeli officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Defense Minister Israel Katz, declared that Israel is not bound by the agreement and will not withdraw from occupied territories until Hezbollah is dismantled. Conversely, Iranian officials and the Iranian military have warned of a 'harsh response' if Israeli strikes continue, citing numerous ceasefire violations. Lebanese authorities have advised displaced residents in the south to delay returning to their homes due to the volatile security situation. According to reports, Israeli drone strikes on vehicles near Nabatieh and Kfartebnit have resulted in at least four deaths. Hezbollah also claims to have repelled Israeli advances in the region, while the Israeli military states it continues to intercept rockets and target militant infrastructure.
