Alshaya Group acquires Starbucks operations in Greece and Cyprus

On April 7, 2026, the Alshaya Group announced it has become the new exclusive owner and operator of Starbucks stores in Greece and Cyprus. This acquisition ends the previous management by the Marinopoulos family, and CEO Yannis Marinopoulos is returning to his family's business. The chain, which originally launched in the region in 2002, currently operates 30 locations in Greece and 18 on Cyprus, employing approximately 500 people. The new operational entities will be named Alshaya Hellas SMSA in Greece and Murgab Cyprus Ltd on Cyprus. The Alshaya Group, a long-term partner of Starbucks since 1999, currently operates over 2,000 stores across 13 countries. Company representatives Saleh Alshaya and Duncan Moir expressed intentions to continue regional growth and expand customer service options. The move marks a formal conclusion to the long-standing partnership between Starbucks and the Marinopoulos family.
