Cyprus cheese producers express concern over milk supply due to foot-and-mouth disease

Michalis Koulouros, executive secretary of the Cyprus Cheese Producers Association, has expressed concern regarding the potential impact of ongoing animal culling on milk supply. The culling is a direct response to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. Koulouros emphasized that the primary concern of the association is the protection of halloumi production and related export activities. While there has been no significant change in milk supply over the past two weeks, the association warns that continued culling could lead to future shortages. The association remains in constant communication with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment to coordinate protective measures. Members of the association are scheduled to meet this coming Friday to discuss the evolving situation and potential actions. Currently, the industry has not seen a reduction in supply, but the outlook remains uncertain until the disease management process is concluded.
