Cyprus authorities warn of booking platform phishing scams
The Cyprus Consumers Association has reported 15 cases of online fraud targeting users of a popular hotel booking platform over the past four days. Fraudsters are sending messages that mimic official platform correspondence, utilizing stolen customer booking details and logos. These messages request a payment of approximately €100 to purportedly confirm reservations, leading some victims to lose significant sums. The association confirms that these payments do not reach the official booking platforms. Furthermore, the organization has begun receiving reports regarding holiday packages that were either cancelled or only partially delivered. Legal officer Virginia Christou advised affected consumers to seek full compensation if services such as scheduled excursions were not provided. The public is urged to remain vigilant and avoid making payments requested through unofficial email channels. Major booking platforms do not typically request additional payments or alter payment procedures via email.
