Continued violence in Gaza despite ceasefire
Despite a ceasefire in effect since October 10, 2025, violence continues in the Gaza Strip with frequent deadly incidents reported by both Palestinian and Israeli sources. Palestinian civil defense and health authorities state that at least 786 to 790 civilians have been killed since the truce began, while the Israeli military reports five soldier casualties. Recent incidents include airstrikes in Khan Yunis, Gaza City, and Beit Lahia, resulting in multiple deaths, including children. Israeli forces have confirmed certain strikes, asserting that they targeted Hamas militants posing an immediate threat to their positions. Palestinian reports often describe civilian casualties, whereas the Israel Defense Forces characterize those targeted as combatants. Both sides continue to trade accusations regarding breaches of the fragile truce agreement. International observers and UN agencies acknowledge the high death toll since the ceasefire's inception.
