Astromeritis-Evrychou highway opens to traffic

On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the new Astromeritis-Evrychou motorway was opened to traffic. This 11.3-kilometre, four-lane project serves as the fourth phase of the Nicosia-Troodos highway. Built by the Cybarco-Pharmakas J.V. consortium under the supervision of the Department of Public Works, construction began in October 2022. While officials state the project was completed within the revised budget of €74,477,000 plus VAT, some local reports indicate a five-month delay in its delivery. Technical features of the road include a 750-metre valley bridge, a grade-separated interchange at Koutrafas, and a terminal roundabout. The government designated the project as one of significant public interest after environmental concerns previously stalled progress. Authorities expect the new route to improve road safety and reduce travel times to the Troodos, Solea, Marathasa, and Pitsilia regions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and adhere strictly to new signage and speed limits.
