Several fire incidents occurred across Cyprus on May 15 and 16, 2026. On May 15, a fire broke out around 8:50 pm in an apartment in Latsia, Nicosia, where a young man was rescued from a balcony and an elderly woman was evacuated; the flat was unoccupied by its main residents at the time. On May 16, three separate fires were reported: a small fire at Kornos (Larnaca) at 5:40 pm involving 12 personnel, a fire at Politiko (Nicosia) at 2:15 pm caused by a grinding tool, and a fire at Mosfiloti (Larnaca) at 1:51 pm. Additionally, police are investigating a car fire that occurred early Saturday morning in Limassol. All fire-related scenes were contained by the Department of Forests or the Fire Service. No major casualties were reported, though investigations into the causes of the non-work-related fires are ongoing.
