Series of fire incidents reported across Cyprus
On May 22, 2026, multiple fire incidents occurred across Cyprus, prompting interventions by the Fire Service. In Mesa Geitonia, Limassol, a house kitchen caught fire due to a forgotten cooking utensil, while in Alethriko, Larnaca, a faulty clothes dryer caused a blaze that forced a family to evacuate via a window. Another residential fire was reported in Chloraka. Additionally, agricultural fires broke out in Ergates, Nicosia, consuming three hectares of dry grass and crops, and a separate brush fire occurred near the Nicosia State Fair. Finally, a fire occurred at a private company in the Aradippou trade zone, triggered by metal welding work inside a shipping container. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents, although significant property damage occurred, particularly at the residential sites and the shipping container.
