Annita Dimitriou comments on Cyprus issue and political stability
DISY President Annita Dimitriou has reaffirmed that the Cyprus issue remains the party's top priority, citing reports from President Nikos Christodoulides about expected serious developments. Dimitriou stressed the necessity of national unity, collective responsibility, and adherence to international law and EU principles to break the current deadlock in negotiations. She emphasized that DISY maintains a consistent political compass and expects other political forces to clarify their positions clearly. During an address at the 37th General Assembly of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber in Limassol, she warned against the rise of toxic political rhetoric, populism, and polarization, arguing that such phenomena cause economic damage. In a separate interview with SKAI Greece, she discussed geopolitical challenges, including Turkish assertions and the need for a multifaceted foreign policy to strengthen Cyprus's defense. Meanwhile, reports suggest underlying political maneuvering regarding potential post-election alliances between DISY and DIKO, despite official party denials of such cooperation. President Christodoulides has publicly called for clear ideological platforms from all parties ahead of the legislative elections.
