PASYDY holds its 63rd congress marking 99 years of service
The PASYDY trade union held its 63rd congress at the Michalakis Karaolis Amphitheatre in Nicosia to mark its 99th anniversary. The event was attended by over 400 delegates, along with Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos and Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Marinos Mousiouttas. PASYDY General Secretary Stratis Matthaiou emphasized the union's commitment to protecting the rights of public servants while acknowledging the current geopolitical and economic challenges. He noted that the union would not tolerate any erosion of worker benefits under the pretext of fiscal constraints. Key achievements cited included the permanent agreement on the gradual restoration of the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) and progress in tax reform. President Antonis Koutsoullis highlighted the public service's role in the state's historical milestones, including the ongoing European Council Presidency. Both government officials and union leadership expressed a commitment to continued social dialogue and the modernization of the public sector. The union plans to hold a pan-syndical meeting in June to assess inflationary pressures and economic conditions.
