Cyta launches digital inclusion initiatives in Cyprus

On Monday, May 11, Cyta presented three new digital inclusion initiatives at its headquarters in Nicosia as part of World Telecommunications Day. These partnerships include the CYENS Centre of Excellence for digital skills in rural areas, Vernian RTI Ltd (AIXRAY) for artificial intelligence training, and Ablebook Ltd for accessibility solutions for disabled persons. During the event, Cyta leadership emphasized the goal of reducing the digital divide in Cyprus through improved access, knowledge, and participation. Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, attended the presentation and highlighted the country's progress in digital transformation. He noted that the technology sector currently contributes approximately 14% to 15% of Cyprus' GDP. Despite Cyprus ranking first in Europe for generative AI tool usage, the Deputy Minister emphasized that gaps in fundamental digital skills remain a major challenge. He stated that while AI can help bridge the divide, it requires targeted policies and stakeholder cooperation to prevent further inequality. The initiatives are designed to reach diverse demographics, including older residents and those in remote communities.
