Famagusta regional authorities report millions in unpaid sewage fees
The Famagusta District Local Government Organization (EOA) has reported that 46 entities owe approximately €6.4 million in overdue sewage fees. President Giannis Karousos stated that the debtors include hoteliers and property developers who have failed to settle payments despite repeated notices. To address the issue, the EOA has decided to halt the processing of license applications for those with outstanding arrears. Furthermore, the organization is planning to publish a list of the debtor companies, though individual names will remain private due to data protection regulations. Giannis Karousos also intends to propose legislation that would grant EOA and municipal authorities the legal power to publicly release the names of major debtors annually on March 1st. While the EOA characterizes these individuals as strategic defaulters who possess the means to pay, the primary action taken so far involves regulatory and administrative pressure.
