Suspect in attempt to assassinate Donald Trump pleads not guilty
Cole Allen, a 31-year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner last month, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. During his first appearance in a Washington federal court, Allen did not speak, with his lawyer entering the plea on his behalf. Charges against him include attempted assassination of the President, assaulting a federal agent, and various firearm offenses. Prosecutors allege that Allen fired a shotgun at a Secret Service agent while attempting to breach a security checkpoint during the event. Judge Trevor McFadden presided over the brief hearing, where Allen appeared in a jumpsuit and shackles. This hearing followed an incident one week prior, in which a different judge apologized to Allen for his treatment in a Washington jail, where he had been held in solitary confinement under suicide watch. Allen remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
