Unar Ustel rejects early election calls in northern Cyprus
On Monday, Unar Ustel, head of the administration in the northern part of Cyprus, rejected opposition demands for early elections. Responding to the Republican Turkish Party's Sila Usar Incirli, Ustel stated that elections will occur at the designated time. He defended his administration's economic record, citing multiple increases to the minimum wage and public sector salaries. Ustel reported that 70 billion Turkish lira have been allocated for projects via an economic cooperation protocol with Turkey. He also claimed that employment and the number of new businesses have grown over the past four years. Regarding travel restrictions imposed by Turkey on specific individuals, Ustel stated that the issue should not be politicized and suggested these bans might be lifted in the future. The opposition maintains that the current political situation warrants a new mandate.
