Donald Trump proposes temporary suspension of federal gasoline tax
President Donald Trump has announced plans to temporarily suspend the 18-cent federal gasoline tax to address rising fuel prices in the United States. He stated that the tax would be reinstated gradually once fuel prices decrease. According to the American Automobile Association, the average price of gasoline in the U.S. has reached 4.52 dollars per gallon, a rise attributed to the conflict in Iran that began on February 28. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright confirmed that the government is exploring this suspension. Trump explicitly rejected the possibility of providing bailout assistance to airline companies, noting that he believes they are currently performing well. Meanwhile, individual states including Indiana, Kentucky, and Georgia are developing their own separate plans to reduce state-level gasoline taxes to relieve financial pressure on consumers.
