University of Cyprus appoints first holder of XM Chair in Artificial Intelligence

The University of Cyprus has officially appointed Professor Constantine Dovrolis as the inaugural holder of the XM Chair in Artificial Intelligence. This position is part of a ten-year initiative funded by the XM Group with a total investment exceeding €1 million. Announced on May 11, 2026, the chair aims to foster research, education, and innovation within the Department of Computer Science. Key objectives of the initiative include building international research partnerships and creating new training, specialization, and internship opportunities for students and professionals. University officials, including Chairman Tasos Anastasiou and Rector Professor Tasos Christofides, highlighted the collaboration as a strategic effort to integrate academic expertise with industry needs. The initiative is intended to strengthen Cyprus' position in the technology sector and establish the chair as a reference point for AI development. Professor Dovrolis emphasized that his vision for the role focuses on the three pillars of research, education, and innovation.
