Tribute held in Limassol for educator and folklorist Andreas Lanitis
A commemorative event titled 'On the paths you carved for us' was held on Monday evening at the Pattihio Municipal Theatre in Limassol. The event honored the memory of Andreas Lanitis, a notable educator, athlete, football player, coach, and preservationist of Cypriot folklore who passed away in 2024. Organized by the Cultural Association 'Dionysos', the performance featured 150 dancers and musicians from Cyprus and Greece, along with the 'Diastasi' dance group. The event was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. Victoras Papadopoulos, Director of the Presidential Press Office, represented the President and delivered a tribute to Lanitis. He highlighted Lanitis's contributions as a mentor, teacher, and founder of the Folklore Association of Limassol and the 'Dionysos' group. The speakers emphasized his role in shaping the youth and his dedication to promoting Cypriot traditions internationally. The tribute focused on his multifaceted career, including his service as an athlete and coach for the GSO stadium.
