Mastercard completes first agentic transactions in Cyprus

Mastercard has conducted the first agentic transactions in a regulated environment in Cyprus in partnership with Alpha Bank Cyprus, Eurobank Limited, and Bank of Cyprus. The initiative utilized the Mastercard Agent Pay technology, allowing an AI agent to execute purchases on behalf of a consumer. The transactions were performed on the Priceless.com platform with the support of PayOS. Consumers must provide explicit consent for the AI agent to act, ensuring identification and data protection. The process relies on agentic tokens designed to secure sensitive information and verify identity throughout the transaction lifecycle. Panagiotis Polydoros, Mastercard's Country Manager for Greece, Cyprus, and Malta, stated that the technology aims to simplify consumer transaction management while prioritizing security and transparency. The pilot project demonstrates how AI-driven commerce can be integrated into financial systems under controlled conditions.
