Road Safety Council announces new motorcycle safety measures in Cyprus

The Cyprus Road Safety Council, led by Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeades, held a meeting to discuss enhancing safety for motorcyclists. Attendees included Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris, representatives from the Police and Public Works, and Adonis Christofides, President of the Cyprus Motorcycle Federation. Proposed initiatives include state subsidies for the purchase of safety equipment and a potential scheme for the withdrawal of older, less safe motorcycles. Authorities plan to launch inspection campaigns for vehicle maintenance through Private Vehicle Technical Inspection Centers (IKTEO). A specialized committee has been tasked with evaluating these proposals for formal adoption by relevant ministries. A follow-up meeting of the Council is scheduled to take place within one month to review progress.
